a-choo!***
You know you've been away too long from home when your body, which you thought was immune to a majority of diseases having survived living in the Philippines, contacts some "foreign illness".
I have hay fever. And I absolutely hate summer in this country because it is at this time when my allergy is at its worst. All flowers are abloom and looking pretty, the air filled with the most atrocious smells. Take the lily for example. Put me in a room with a bunch of them and I begin a sneezing frenzy.
I long for the autumn, when it's dark and gloomy. When flowers begin to wilt and leaves start to fall.
*** In Tagalog, ha-tsing!

mystery solved
A guest rang Reception at 1800 to report that her bathroom lights are busted. As Maintenance only works until 1600, I called Dave, today's Duty Manager, to sort it out.
Five minutes later, he comes back to the desk. "I can't get the plastic cover off, man. Can you go with me and try it yourself." And so off I went. True enough, the lid was snugged tightly thus making it difficult to remove the cover. After awhile and with the help of my house keys, it was off! He then replaced the bulb and I flicked the switch on.
It worked! And then suddenly, we heard the guest talk. "I always wondered how many men does it take to change a lightbulb."

these shoes are not made for walking
They are dangerously pointed. My brother Nates got them from Morocco and sent them to me last Christmas as a present. I haven't worn it since. I am too worried to put them on lest I risk causing harm to myself and others.
I like it. And I am not being ungrateful. It's a handsome pair and will definitely make me look more dapper when worn with a suit. But I haven't got a decent suit. Nates, you get my drift?
Happy birthday. And goodluck. Much luck.
